Joining your employer
Employer policy
It is a compulsory condition of employment for all permanent employees to join one of the Altron approved medical schemes on either Bonitas or Discovery Health, unless proof can be provided of coverage as a dependant on their spouse/partner’s medical scheme membership.
Employees earning a pensionable salary of less than R25 000 have the additional option to join Discovery Flexicare or Kaelo Health.
No waiting periods or penalties will apply to you, spouse/partner and/or child dependants if you join within 90 days of your employment date. However, underwriting may apply to all special dependants.
Monthly contributions are deducted by payroll on a cost to company basis. In other words, there is no company subsidy and members pay for monthly contributions in full.
Gap Cover is offered on a voluntary basis through Kaelo Gap and is deducted in full from payroll. Waiting periods may apply to any pre-existing conditions.
The employer policy confirms all the Altron guidelines and rules regarding your healthcare arrangements.

It is advisable to obtain a membership number and then submit your application for chronic and disease registration.

Your medical scheme may have a wellness and loyalty programme that provides rewards, discounts and benefits for leading a healthier lifestyle. This may come at an additional cost.
